Manchester City are about to begin our 14th-consecutive Champions League campaign.

Here is everything you need to know about the league stage draw in the newly formatted competition.

WHEN AND WHERE?

The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League draw will begin at 17:00 (UK) at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on Thursday 29 August.

2024/25 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - NEW FORMAT EXPLAINER

OPPONENTS

In the new format, the league stage now consists of 36 teams.

25 of those teams qualified automatically via their 2023/24 league standings across Europe’s domestic league competitions.

Italy and Germany’s respective leagues were rewarded with an extra place based on their club performances across Europe’s three prestigious competitions.

With the Champions League and Europa League winners already in the list of qualified teams, Shaktar Donetsk and Benfica also automatically qualified.

The final seven places in the league stage will be determined via the play-offs with the winners yet to be confirmed.

The current list of qualified teams from each country is as follows:

England: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City.

Scotland: Celtic.

Spain: Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, Real Madrid.

Germany: Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Stuttgart.

Italy: AC Milan, Atalanta, Bologna, Inter Milan, Juventus.

France: Brest, Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain.

Portugal: Benfica, Sporting Lisbon.

Netherlands: Feyenoord, PSV.

Austria: Sturm Graz.

Belgium: Club Brugge.

Ukraine: Shakhtar Donetsk.

WHO could CITY FACE?

In the new-look Champions League, there will be 36 teams in the group stage.

However, no team can play a club from their own association - meaning we won’t face Aston Villa, Liverpool or Arsenal in the first phase.

Therefore, Pep Guardiola side can play any of the remaining 32 teams in the league stage.

And in the new format, all eight of City’s games – four home and four away – will see us take on a new opponent in each fixture.

WHERE CAN YOU WATCH THE DRAW?
