It is a further extension of our English record, which is now six games better than Arsenal’s 24 home Champions League games without losing between September 2004 and April 2009.
We remain eight off the overall record, set by Barcelona between 2013 and 2020.
Our last home defeat in the continental competition came on 19 September 2018 against French club Lyon.
Since then, we have gone four complete campaigns without losing at the Etihad including last season’s incredible run all the way to success in Istanbul.
Amongst the 28 victories have been many unforgettable nights, such as the emphatic wins over RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in last term’s knockout stages.
The 14 goals in those three fixtures alone contributed heavily to the 97 we have scored on this run, having only conceded 23 times.
The only sides to stop us from winning at the Etihad since September 2018 are Shakhtar Donetsk in the 2019/20 group stage and Sporting CP in the 2021/22 Round of 16.
We have now gone 22 matches unbeaten home and away in Europe.
We have also won our last 10 Champions League matches, becoming the first English side ever to reach that figure.
The success on Wednesday night also ensured our seventh successive season in the last eight of the competition, a longer run than any other side has achieved.
