Manuel Akanji expressed his delight after making his City debut, helping us to a 4-0 UEFA Champions League victory over Sevilla.

The defender was named in the starting lineup for the first time at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium by Pep Guardiola and helped the team to a convincing victory.

Akanji had 86 touches of the ball in an assured display at the back, whilst also playing two key passes in the 90 minutes.

The centre-back was thrilled after the perfect debut. He said:

“The guys supported me well, I’m happy with that.

“I’m happy with the clean sheet and the three points today.”

The 27-year-old defender completed his switch to City just six days ago from Borussia Dortmund, our second arrival of the summer from the German club after securing the services of talisman Erling Haaland.

The Swiss international, who played with Haaland for Dortmund, admitted his delight at signing for the Club and revealed that Haaland was in contact with him prior to the transfer.

“He texted me before I came and when City calls you ,I didn’t have to think twice!

“He only told me good things about the club and I’m happy I made the decision to come here.”
