Ake had the last laugh as he headed in the winner just before the hour mark from Kevin de Bruyne‘s superb cross.

The Dutchman feels that it was a strong display by every player who came on the pitch and believes the collective strength propelled City to victory.

“It was good to be back. It was a little bit strange but it was a good game and exciting,” he said. “We managed to win so it was good.”

“We didn’t have too much training so it was tough in the end.

“Everyone played well, coming in like this to have the pace like this, it was good to see.”

The clash with the Reds was our return to competitive domestic action after the 40 day break for the World Cup.

The defender, who represented his nation in Qatar, admitted he enjoyed the tournament but attention is now firmly turning back onto the rest of the season in sky blue.

“I think it was overall a good experience at the World Cup,” he admitted.

“Then I had a few days off and then we came back in here.

“It’s a bit of adjusting, different manager, different style of play, but everyone got through it well and hopefully we carry on like this.”
