Three days after our 1-0 defeat of Tottenham Hotspur, Pep Guardiola’s side travel to France to face Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of our Champions League semi-final and the former Club captain says the momentum provided by that win at Wembley will prove invaluable.
As City’s gruelling schedule continues, Morrison feels the victory over Spurs will have given the players renewed determination as they bid to reach the Champions League final for the first time in our history.
“It’s momentum,” he said. “You are winning games of football.
“After you win a game like that, the togetherness and camaraderie is there for everyone to see. It is an incredibly strong bond that is built over a long period of time.
“The Tottenham lads will have woken up and found it really hard to go again. These lads will have been up and they’ll be bright and they will be ready to go again. That’s what winning does.
“The opportunity to create history for this football club has got to be appealing to every one of them. They want to be part of it.
“Players will be disappointed when he names the team for PSG but there is a togetherness there that will pull them through.”

Whilst qualifying for a Champions League final is unchartered territory for City, the same cannot be said of Guardiola, who has claimed the trophy on two occasions.
The Catalan is a serial winner and Morrison believes his determined approach is ideal for a side that is somewhat stepping into the unknown in the last four clash against PSG.
“The man at the top will not relent,” added the Connahs Quay Nomads manager.
“We would have been off for two days missing. They will be on their protein shakes and their cryotherapy and will be in for treatment tomorrow morning ready to go again. That’s modern-day footballers.
“We couldn’t ask for a better man to be leading them. He will look them in the eye in the morning and look to see who is ready to go again. For them it will be bring on Wednesday night, we cannot wait to go and do something incredible.”
And, with that in mind, our one-time centre-half hopes City stick with the philosophy that has worked to wonderful effect so far this season.
Whilst Mauricio Pochettino’s side are blessed with world class talents across the pitch, Morrison believes the key to success will be focusing on maximising our own strengths rather than being preoccupied with the opposition’s threats.
“I want us to go in with a clear identity and believing in what we do, coming up with a solution to beat them and to be better than them,” he explained.
“I don’t want us to sit back and change our system or look at it in a different way to stifle then. We have got a clear identity.
“There is a belief throughout his football club that our time is coming. We have got to go and make it happen. Not try and stop the opposition.
“It’s about us and making sure that this is our time. That comes from believing in what we’re about, not tweaking things to stop the opposition. Let’s go for it.”
