The exciting Ghanaian international has sealed a move to City from Bournemouth, signing a five-and-a-half-year deal with the Blues, with his contract keeping him at the Etihad through to the summer of 2031.
Winger Semenyo, who turned 26 earlier this week, has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most talented and sought-after attacking talents over the course of three impressive years on the south coast.
Having already scored 10 goals to date this term in the Premier League, he is coming into the prime years of a career that has already delivered so much.
Now, having sealed the move to City, our new number 42 says learning and developing under Guardiola’s inspired leadership will only help further enhance his progress and further untap his vast potential.
“[I’d describe myself as] A powerful, quick, strong, clinical player, but still improving. I feel I’m still yet to reach my peak,” Semenyo said in his first interview since joining the Club.
“I’ve still got a lot of learning to do and joining City is going to be the best thing for my development.
“The best coaches, [and] the best players will take my game to the next level.
SEMENYO’S PREMIER LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS
“I feel I’m improving but there are so many young players here who I think will be top players.
“I want to be part of that, and I want to rewrite history again.”
Along the way to making the move to City, Semenyo has had to put in the hard yards across the course of his career to date.
As part of his development at the outset of his career, he undertook loan spells at both Newport County and Sunderland and figured 125 times for Championship side Bristol City before making the move to the topflight with Bournemouth in January 2023.
And he says all those experiences – both positive and challenging – had only served to make him the player he is today – as well as a more rounded, complete individual to boot.
“Well, I’ve had to be a strong character [to get here],” Antoine added.
“I feel like emotionally, mentally I’ve had to get really strong.
“I’ve had family and friends, my fiancé around me, keeping me uplifted and always pushing me.
“I’ve had to push myself quite a bit to get through a lot of troubled times, hard times.
“But it’s made me the man I am today. Strong, fearless and ready to attack the world. 100%.”
