The Frenchman rose highest eight minutes from time to separate the two sides with a powerful header into the bottom corner of his fellow countryman Hugo Lloris’ net.
And our centre-half called for City to use our victory under the Wembley arch as a spring board for future success this season.
“We are so happy to win this title again,” Laporte reflected.
“This is very special for us because we lost in the FA Cup, it’s good for us to get confidence.
“We have done so, so good in the last few months and we have to keep this rhythm to win more titles.”
Pep Guardiola’s men were full value for the win, dominating possession and launching 21 shots on the Tottenham goal, compared to our opponents’ two attempts.
Nonetheless, Ryan Mason’s side remained organised, looking to frustrate City at every turn and, but for Laporte’s crucial contribution, would have taken the game to extra time.
With this in mind, our match winner was particularly pleased by the manner in which we were able to grind out the victory, especially with a select number of fans allowed to cheer us on from Wembley.
He said: “It was difficult because (Spurs) are a good team, it is never easy to play a good team who fight towards the top of the league.
“We did very well and we are very happy to win today and to win this trophy.
“I am very happy to have the support of these beautiful fans.”
