City drew 3-3 against Barcelona in a thrilling friendly, with the primary motive to raise money towards aiding ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) research through the Luzon Foundation.

In 2020, Juan Carlos Unzue, a former Barcelona player and coach and friend of Pep Guardiola, was diagnosed as having ALS, an incurable neurodegenerative disease that sees patients suffer a progressive loss of function, with their life prognosis shortened to four to six years.

All funds raised through ticket sales for the match go towards aiding ALS research, with the official attendance confirmed as 91,062.

City took the lead first in the charity fundraiser through Julian Alvarez, before the hosts hit back with goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Frenkie De Jong.

Just minutes after falling behind in the second half, City levelled through Cole Palmer, who tapped into an empty net after Joao Cancelo’s driven cross.

Memphis Depay restored Barcelona’s lead but Riyad Mahrez equalised deep into stoppage time from the penalty spot.
