The Portugal midfielder joined City in the summer of 2017 and has made a huge contribution to our recent success.
With 308 appearances already, Bernardo has won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, two Community Shields and the Champions League.
He has also scored 55 goals, most memorably hitting the two opening goals of the 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the semi-final of the Champions League on the way to last season’s success.
And he is hoping to add even more silverware after signing a one-year extension at the Etihad.
“I’ve had six incredible years at Manchester City and I’m delighted to extend my time here,” Bernardo said.
“Winning the Treble last season was extremely special and it’s exciting to be part of a squad where there is such a hunger and passion.
“Success makes you want even more, and this Club gives me that opportunity to keep on winning.
“I love the manager, my team-mates and the fans and hope we can share even more great memories in the coming years.”
Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “Bernardo has been exceptional during his time at the Etihad, so we’re delighted that he has signed a contract extension with the Club.
“His quality and technical ability is fantastic - and alongside his hard work and professionalism, he has become one of the best players in the world.
“Bernardo was so important in our Treble-winning season and we are sure he can help deliver even more trophies in the next few years.”
As well as the 14 trophies Bernardo has won during his time at City, he was named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2018/19 and 2021/22 and the Champions League Team of the Season in 2022/23.
In 2018/19 he was City’s Player of the Year and won the Goal of the Season in 2021/22 for his brilliant volley against Aston Villa.
For Portugal, Bernardo has made 82 appearances and helped them win the 2019 UEFA Nations League where he was named Player of the Tournament.

If any player truly encapsulates Manchester City at our free-flowing, mesmeric best then arguably it’s the image of Bernardo Silva in full flight.
The sight of our diminutive but effervescent Portuguese playmaker taking the game to our opponents with the shackles off stands as the very essence of Pep Guardiola’s brilliant and beguiling Manchester City.
If Pep is the composer, more often not Bernardo operates as the on-field orchestrator, his natural talent, unquenchable spirit and iron-clad commitment helping elicit the very best out of his colleagues too.
There’s also a joy and freedom about Bernardo that has helped establish him as one of the most pivotal and hugely popular figures over the course of City’s astonishing success these past few years.
That quality alongside an infectious, engaging personality have also helped establish a special bond between player and Club.
For if any player was made to play for City, then surely it’s our number 20.
From the moment Bernardo arrived in Manchester in the summer of 2017 – just months after having first served notice of his ability for Monaco in a Champions League tie against City - it was clear that the Club had acquired a very special talent.
From the get-go, Bernardo quickly established himself as the beating heart of Guardiola’s side.
Whether it be flying down the wing, playing from deep, tackling opponents physically bigger and stronger than him without fear, scoring spectacular goals and playing with an infectious enthusiasm, Bernardo’s brand of football brilliance filtered directly from the pitch onto the stands.
The City fans quickly fell in love with the diminutive No.20 and his name has been echoing around the Etihad ever since, more often than not connected with the Champions League final destination of that particular year to the infectious tune of ABBA’s ‘Voulez-Vous’.
When Bernardo is at his best City invariably win and its no coincidence that his arrival co-incided with what has been the most successful period in the Club’s 129-year history.
Bernardo has demonstrated too the happy knack of delivering special moments on the biggest of occasions.
Few will ever forget his quite brilliant brace against Real Madrid in last season’s magical 4-0 UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg win – a display that many observers hailed as one of the finest sever delivered by an English side.
He also conjured up a number of special strikes in helping City carve out victories at Manchester United down the years while it was Bernardo’s assist that set up Rodrigo’s winner in last season’s Champions League final win against Inter.
All told, 14 trophies now adorn his trophy cabinet while last season, along the way to helping the Club claim our historic Treble, Bernardo also achieved the impressive individual landmark of chalking up his 300th game for City.
In many ways too, Bernardo stands as the very embodiment of what Pep looks for in a player.
Rather than being pigeon-holed as a player who operates in one specific position, Bernardo stands as a team player in every sense of the word.
Be it playing wide on the right, operating more centrally in the City engine room, being deployed as a false nine, or even dropping back into a more defensive role, over the course of his storied Etihad career, Bernardo has demonstrated time and again he possesses both the talent and temperament to implement whatever is required to serve the needs of the side.
That selfless commitment to the team and his special qualities as a player have helped underscore just why Pep values the 29-year-old so highly – and why the boss will be so delighted Bernardo has signed his new contract extension.
“I have been lucky to coach some very good players for Barcelona and Bayern Munich. He is one of the best players I ever trained in my life, ever. He is something special as a football player,” Pep declared earlier this year.
“He is a player who you say is going to play in that position and you do not have to say anything else.
“Bernardo is a football player. He can play everywhere because he understands the game perfectly and every action with and without the ball.
“He is so, so important.
“If you want statistics, you can go to big data and write a big article about that.
“But there are some things that people don’t come to in the data. It’s something that is unique.
“And Bernardo is unique.”
