Playmaker Bernardo took time to reflect nostalgically on his six-year spell in the sky blue after putting pen to paper on his fresh contract, insisting it could not have gone better.
But he admitted he’s relishing what’s still to come in the future as he eyes more honours to add to the impressive 14 he’s already collected.
“[It’s my] seventh season playing for Man City now. And it’s been a dream in terms of what we achieved, in terms of the prospects of what we can still do,” he told us.
“Six years where we won five Premier Leagues, one Champions League and all the cups.
“I couldn’t have imagined it better, to be honest.
“I am very happy. [It’s] another season where we will try to do as best as possible. And we started well. Let’s keep going that way.
“I’m going for my seventh season at City. To be here until now meant trophies, meant winning a lot. And I like to win. It’s good to win.
“It’s not easy. So to be in a winning team, it’s a very good feeling. And I wanted to keep it that way.”
Bernardo’s trophy cabinet, already bursting at the seams, was supplemented this past season by the ultimate trio of prizes – Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.
It was a sky blue season like no other and Bernardo certainly played his part.
That was seen most vividly in his astonishing goalscoring performance in the 4-0 Champions League semi-final second leg win over Real Madrid.
Bernardo bagged a brilliant brace that evening and says that unforgettable performance was a prime example of the team’s ‘indestructible’ feeling heading into the big matches.
Asked where that win over Los Blancos ranked for him in his glittering career, he added: “Definitely top three. But if not, the first one.
“But I think not just the Real Madrid game. If you look at the big games at home last season, it was the season where we felt more, let’s say, indestructible when we were playing at home.
“If you look at Man United, we won 6-3, then Liverpool 4-1, then Arsenal 4-1. Bayern Munich quarter final 3-0, Madrid.
“So all the big games when we needed the support from the fans and they showed up and we answered back with a very good performance and we felt really, really strong at home.
“That was probably one of my favourite games ever in my career yes, because semi-finals of the Champions League, you know that you have an opportunity to play another final and to win the trophy that that this club was missing and to perform the way that we did that night was just unbelievable.”
