The Portuguese says finding a way to replicate the form that has brought the Club so many trophies will spur the squad on as the season goes into its final third.
He believes the feeling of lifting the Premier League trophy or winning cups is addictive, and that hunger will be key in the coming months.
“What motivates me are the memories of our successes, they are so nice that we always want to repeat them,” says Bernardo.
“Having said this, we have the responsibility of doing our best for the fans and for the Club that we represent, so we always give our all to be able to win again and also to leave our mark on football history.
“The story that we have written as a team, winning four of the last five Premier Leagues, and having won League Cups, FA Cups, Community Shields.
“We also want to add the Champions League to this, and this willingness keeps growing to cement this special period in the Club’s history – it’s something that we all feel.”
The Blues were frustratingly held on the last outing away to Nottingham Forest, allowing Arsenal to regain pole position in the table just a few days after losing to City.
Bernardo believes the performance at the City Ground was good overall, but missed chances ultimately cost the defending champions two points.
“Well, it was a strange game as I think that we played well, of course the team never try to draw a game, but this specific game was a match in which we played quite well,” he said.
“We ended up missing chances to score in important moments of the game, and then we entered the final 10 minutes in which anything could happen as the opposition were prepared to risk more, we came under pressure, and they began to win the second balls.
“It was a game that we controlled and were playing well, so losing out on all three points was difficult.”
Bernardo says he is expecting a similar hard-fought game against Bournemouth on Saturday – but stresses it is one he feels is vital to win.
“The games have come thick and fast, it’s been a tough run of fixtures and it’s not been easy,” he said.
“We drew with Forest, and we’ve not been able to constantly win.
“Once more we’re going to give our best against Bournemouth away from home, of course that’s harder than playing at home, but with a lot of desire to bring back the three points.”
