It has the largest payout of any bowl event that takes place, excluding the College Football Playoff games, with a staggering $8.55 million paid to each team.

NAME CHANGES

The venue has had seven name changes since its inception in 1936.

Originally named the Orlando Stadium, in 1947 it was renamed to the Tangerine Bowl. After 28 years, it spent one year under the name Citrus Bowl before being renamed back to the Orlando Stadium in 1977.

In 1983 another name change saw City’s latest pre-season tour venue be known as the Florida Citrus Bowl for 30 years. From 2014 to 2016, fans referred to the stadium as the Orlando Citrus Bowl.

It was in 2016 it was renamed for a final time to its current name, the Camping World Stadium, as part of a multi-year naming sponsorship with Camping World.

MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR REBUILD

In 2014, the then-named Orlando Citrus Bowl saw a 90% reconstruction project which cost a whopping $ 207.7 million.

This included 41,000 lower bowl seats that were upgraded to include armrests, additional leg room and improved concourses are just a few new amenities that were added.

CAPACITY

For American football games, the stadium can hold 60,219 fans which can increase to 65,194 if expanded to maximum capacity.

For soccer, as known by the locals, the Camping World Stadium can host 19,500 or be increased to its capacity of 60,219 depending on interest.

FRIENDLY FIXTURES

City’s clash with Barcelona isn’t the only pre-season game the Camping World Stadium has welcomed.

Its first was on 23 July 2022 when Arsenal beat Chelsea 4-0 in the 2022 Florida Cup in front of 63,811 fans.

A year later, on 2 August 2023, Juventus overcame Real Madrid with a 3-1 triumph in front of 63,503 fans.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The Camping World Stadium was one of nine stadiums used for the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

Two years later, the venue was used in the 1996 Olympics as one of five football stadiums used for the prestigious event.

It has also hosted the NFL’s Pro Bowl five times. The annual competition which was recently reformatted to The Pro Bowl Games saw flag football come into place in 2023 to celebrate some of the NFL’s best performing players.

WRESTLEMANIA

It’s not just sporting events the Camping World Stadium can facilitate. In March 2008, Wrestlemania took over the venue for the XXIV edition of the professional wrestling pay-per-view event.

A record crowd of 74,635 was the largest in the stadium’s history. In April 2017 Wrestlemania returned for its 33rd edition and broke it’s previous record attendance with 75,245 fans.

FILM HERITAGE
