City tore into Frank Lampard’s side, managing more shots on goal than any visiting side since 2007.
Foden, who was at his sparking best, scoring one and creating another, says the boss plotted Chelsea’s downfall to perfection.
“He always has great tactics going into big games like today,” said Foden.
“He’s a genius at things like this and as you could tell today we played the right way.
“We stayed high and wide and went down the flanks. It was something we did well.”
Asked what the hug from his manager meant as he came off towards the end of the game, Foden said: “It means a lot when you put 100% into a game to get a good shout off the manager.
“It feels nice. I’m enjoying my football and I want to keep on enjoying it.
“I still have a lot to learn and there’s a lot of quality players at this club.
“Riyad Mahrez was on the bench today could have easily played. There’s quality players at this club and I just have to keep doing well each time I get the opportunity.
“It gives you the confidence, coming here and getting the result how we did.
“It gives everyone confidence in the changing room, and we just want to keep pushing now and play like this more often.”
