Riyad Mahrez emerged from the bench to score in the second-half to inspire a 1-0 Premier League victory over Chelsea in London.

The best chance of the first 45 minutes fell to the hosts, as substitute Carney Chuckwuemeka’s effort struck the base of the post and bounced to the feet of John Stones, who calmly cleared.

After the interval, City emerged on the front foot and came close to the opener, with Nathan Ake‘s header from Kevin de Bruyne‘s cross striking the post.

We continued out attacking threat as De Bruyne‘s powerful drive from just inside the 18 yard box was parried to safety by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The intent paid off as substitute duo Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez combined for the opener just after the hour mark, with the Englishman playing the ball across the box to the Algerian at the back post, who tapped into the empty net.

Erling Haaland almost made it two, but De Bruyne‘s cross just evaded the striker’s outstretched foot inside the six yard box.
