After the hosts saw an early goal disallowed for offside, we then threatened shortly after the half-hour mark as Nico O’Reilly charged up the left flank and cut the ball back for captain Bernardo Silva, who saw his well-directed effort from close-range instinctively saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
Shortly after, we forced Sanchez into action again, this time through Cherki’s sweeping effort, again created by the marauding O’Reilly, but the shot-stopper was well-positioned to smother the strike, before Antoine Semenyo struck just wide before half-time.
Six minutes after the break, our Carabao Cup final hero O’Reilly opened the scoring, latching onto Cherki’s curling cross to expertly head into the top corner.
We remained on the front foot and doubled the lead shortly before the hour mark with Cherki again the provider, fizzing the ball into the feet of Marc Guéhi, who controlled perfectly before flashing the ball into the bottom corner for his first league goal for City.
We were rampant and continued our attacking barrage, as Jeremy Doku won the ball back from Moises Caicedo high up the pitch and drilled in a superb third.
The victory sees us cut the gap to league-leaders Arsenal to six points, with City to face the Gunners next Sunday and also still with a game in hand.
