Manchester City put Chelsea to the sword at Stamford Bridge courtesy of a devastating first half display in which Ilkay Gündogan, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne were all on the scoresheet.

Pep Guardiola’s men were ahead inside 20 minutes when Gündogan turned away from Thiago Silva and angled an inch-perfect drive into the bottom corner from just inside the box.

And just three minutes later Foden doubled our advantage with a clinical near-post finish from De Bruyne’s cutback, finding a yard of space to flick home the Belgian’s inch-perfect centre.

A breathtaking opening 45 from City continued apace just after the half hour when Raheem Sterling struck the post following a swift counter, but the ball fell at the feet of De Bruyne who duly added a third.

Things could have got even better just before the hour when Rodrigo got on the end of De Bruyne’s floated free-kick, but the Spaniard’s header forced an excellent reaction save from Chelsea stopped Edouard Mendy.

With the game in its dying embers, Chelsea grabbed a consolation in stoppage time when Callum Hudson-Odoi slid in at the back post to put away a low cross from Kai Havertz.

But the damage had already been done as we marched on to a third consecutive Premier League victory, and made a real statement to our title rivals.
