The German keeper was superb as City reached the last 16 of the Carabao Cup, winning the Man of the Match award as he made several fine saves.
The boss was also delighted for Jack Grealish and the returning Kalvin Phillips – and both will be hoping to win a place in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man World Cup squad when it is announced tomorrow afternoon.
“It’s not the first game (Ortega Moreno has impressed),” said Guardiola.
WHEN IS THE CARABAO CUP ROUND FOUR DRAW?
“The game in Dortmund and against Sevilla, he was exceptional. Today as well.
“The club made an incredible signing. He is an exceptional goalkeeper in all departments with the ball and with his feet.
“Chelsea didn’t score because he saved it. It’s good for Ederson as well. To have competition is so important to maintain your level.”
Meanwhile, Grealish turned in arguably one of his best City performances yet with a display full of confidence and energy throughout.
Though he didn’t get the goal he deserved on the night, Guardiola says the goals will come if he maintains the levels he showed against Chelsea.
“Jack was magnificent,” he said.
“He played really well. I want Jack to have responsibility when we play with Kevin or Phil.
“When he gets the ball and attacks the backline, his intention is always to pass the ball.
“All the time we tell him to go to score a goal. He has the body language to pass the ball, but tonight his body language was ‘I am going to score a goal’.
“He didn’t score, but one day he will do it. Jack is playing really good.”
And on the successful return of Kalvin Phillips, the boss added: “Kalvin made a good 40 minutes. It’s been a long time since he last played and played with incredible personality.
“In the second half of the season, we will need him.”
