But who has been our best signing of Pep Guardiola or Nick Cushing’s tenures?

In the latest instalment of #City30 presented by Nexen, we asked you – the fans – to nominate the most influential recruit and there were plenty of suggestions…

Ederson

One of the most technically gifted goalkeepers in history with a passing range most midfielders would envy, the Brazilian joined City from Portuguese side Benfica in the summer of 2017.

Admired for his composure in possession, the shot-stopper has been imperative to City’s success, adding a calming influence to the backline and even providing the odd assist!

Ever cheerful, he’s equally likeable off the pitch and has certainly been one of Guardiola’s most effective signings.

We think he’s… brilliant!

Leroy Sane

Lightning Leroy.

The German international joined Guardiola’s revolution in July 2016 from Schalke and quickly earned a reputation as one of the fastest and most skilful players in the Premier League.

With excellent dribbling ability and a finishing accuracy to match, Sane has scored some of the most important goals in our recent success and can produce a moment of magic when needed the most.

Having suffered an injury in the Community Shield before the start of the 2019/20 campaign, he has proved a big miss this year – such was the significance of his contribution.

We look forward to seeing him running down the wing for us again.

Gabriel Jesus

A teenage Gabriel Jesus moved to Manchester in 2017’s January transfer window from his native Brazil in a move which had been agreed the previous summer.

A fans’ favourite at Palmeiras, he stayed to help the Club to glory, breaking records and earning plaudits for his goalscoring ability and potential.

Like Sane, he has netted some pivotal goals in City’s title-winning campaigns, perhaps most famously: the last-gasp chipped strike against Southampton which secured 100 points for the ‘Centurions’ with virtually the last kick of the season!

Exuding South American flair, he’s exceptionally skilful, very effective in the air and boasts a remarkable goals to game ratio.

Aymeric Laporte

The newest recruit of the quartet suggested, Frenchman Aymeric Laporte signed for City from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018 as one of Europe’s most promising defenders.

Hailed for his calmness, strength and passing accuracy, the centre-back signified the perfect fit for Guardiola’s jigsaw.

Composure personified, Laporte’s inclusion brought a welcome solidity and proved crucial in aiding our hunts for silverware.

Powerful in the air, the defender also boasts an attacking threat, especially from set-pieces, and – like Sane – his injury setback has proved a major blow for City in 2019/20.

Thursday’s topic: headers.

Whose header of the Guardiola, Cushing or Alan Mahon era was executed to perfection? Whose was a crucial strike? Who demonstrated an aerial ability you didn’t know they had?
