Foden returns to the side after recovering from the injury that ruled him out of the September international break, when Grealish, Sterling, Stones and Walker all featured as the Three Lions recorded two wins and a draw to remain unbeaten in Group I.

That included back-to-back 4-0 victories over Andorra and Hungary and Gareth Southgate’s side will be hoping for a similar outcome as they bid to stay on track to qualify for next year’s tournament in Qatar.

City’s players will depart after Sunday’s game against Liverpool and will have five days to prepare for the opening fixture.

They travel to Andorra on Saturday 9 October, before returning home to face Hungary at Wembley Stadium on the following Tuesday.
