City’s eventful Carabao Cup fourth-round victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday was played out in front of a new record attendance for any domestic cup game at the Etihad.

A crowd of 55,343 were present at the Etihad to witness a thrilling contest that saw Enzo Maresca’s side twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with the Seagulls before then securing a dramatic 4-3 victory in the subsequent penalty shootout.

The fans more than played their part too, providing magnificent support and backing all night long to help roar the Blues on to a memorable victory.

Our reward is a quarter-final date at home to Bradford City to be played in December on a date still to be confirmed.

Prior to last night’s clash, our highest attendance at the Etihad in a domestic cup game had come in an FA Cup third round encounter at home to Burnley in January 2018.

A crowd of 53, 356 were there that day to see the Blues overcome the Clarets 4-1.

In the League Cup itself, our previous Etihad record crowd was present for a fourth-round tie against Liverpool back in December 2022.

In what was the first game after the mid-winter break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals, a crowd of 52,423 were present to see City overcome Liverpool 3-2 to book our spot in the quarter-finals.

Last night’s game also saw us come very close to bettering our biggest-ever attendance for a League Cup game.

That saw 55,799 crammed into Maine Road to watch a semi-final first leg derby encounter with Manchester United on December 3, 1969.

Joe Mercer’s side edged out the Reds 2-1 en route to reaching the 1970 final where we subsequently beat West Brom 2-1.
