It promises to be a special occasion, and ahead of the game the City squad, led by manager Pep Guardiola, have had the chance to meet the players and staff of our City Football Group sister club Girona.
Guardiola and Girona boss Michel got to share ideas – and the City players were able to use Girona’s training centre in preparation for Wednesday’s game.
The game against Barcelona is a special charity game, with all funds raised through ticket sales for Wednesday’s match to go towards aiding ALS research through the Luzon Foundation.
In 2020, Juan Carlos Unzue, a former Barcelona player and coach and friend of Pep Guardiola, was diagnosed as having amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), an incurable neurodegenerative disease that sees patients suffer a progressive loss of function, with their life prognosis shortened by four to six years.
Wednesday’s game is a demonstration of FC Barcelona and Manchester City’s commitment to fighting ALS.
