OPPOSING MANAGER - ANDONI IRAOLA

The Spaniard took over for the Cherries in June 2023 with a low profile on English shores, but two years on the 43-year-old is being tipped as one of the best managers in the Premier League.

Iraola had a great playing career on the pitch, reaching two Spanish Copa del Rey finals, a Europa League final and qualifying for the Champions League with Athletic Club from Bilbao.

In management, he worked at AEK Larnaca, Mirandes and Rayo Vallecano before moving to England and securing Bournemouth’s highest ever points tally in a top-flight campaign.

Iraola now has his side flying high in second place in the table after a blistering start to the new season. The manager prefers a 4-2-3-1 formation, with plenty of emphasis on the full-backs to get forward, allowing the wingers to become inside forwards.

Iraola demands plenty of energy and wants his players to be confident on the ball, so we can expect the away side to play a brave style of football at the Etihad.

DANGER MEN

The Cherries sold a host of talent last summer, but still pose a significant attacking threat, mainly through winger Antoine Semenyo.

The Ghanaian has nine goal involvements in nine Premier League matches this season in the form of six goals and three assists, including a superb brace away to Liverpool in the first game of the new season.

Another major attacking threat that has emerged for Bournemouth, especially in recent weeks, has come from teenage striker Eli Junior Kroupi, who has claimed four goals in his last three league appearances, including a stunning long-range strike in their last game against Nottingham Forest.

Semenyo and Kroupi possess plenty of pace, so City will need to remain alert to stop any fast counter attacks on Sunday.

PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW

“I would say it’s just nine games but also in previous seasons they’re consistent.

“The team, manager, players, a tough opponent, but we know that.

“They’re top. The manager, directors’ playing philosophy doesn’t change. The players did but it’s impressive.

“When you lose the three or four of the back four to PSG Madrid and Liverpool and still do it in that way it’s because there’s a lot of good work behind them.

“When I was in Munich I heard the rumour that everyone can beat anyone in England.

“It always had that sense, maybe Liverpool and us in the past changed that dynamic and were so consistent every season arriving with close to 100 points but the PL always has been where teams can beat them.

“Anyone can beat anyone but for the spectator and the Premier League it’s really good.”

PREVIOUS MEETING

The last time we welcomed Bournemouth to the Etihad, we said farewell to Club legend Kevin De Bruyne, who played for City at the Etihad for the final time.

Goals from Omar Marmoush, Bernardo Silva and Nico ensured a 3-1 win, Cherries forward Daniel Jebbison hitting a consolation in stoppage time.

LAST TIME OUT

Our nine-match unbeaten run across all competitions came to an end last weekend, as Aston Villa claimed a slender 1-0 victory at Villa Park thanks to a smart finish from Matty Cash.

We were in midweek action in the Carabao Cup, where we claimed a 3-1 victory over Championship side Swansea City to progress into the quarter-finals of the competition.

As for Bournemouth, they continued their impressive start to the season by claiming a 2-0 home victory over Nottingham Forest, with goals from Marcus Tavernier and Eli Junior Kroupi.
