City came flying out of the traps in what was an electric start at the Etihad as we pressed Everton in an early attempt to unsettle the stubborn visitors.
Pep Guardiola’s men nearly got an early breakthrough, when Josko Gvardiol hit the post from the corner with a thumping header and Bernardo Silva was then denied by Jordan Pickford in the follow-up.
After a sustained period of pressure from City, Bernardo’s deflected goal ended a neat move to give us the advantage.
Jeremy Doku was the architect after he fed the Portuguese on the left edge of the box and it was tight angle, but today’s skipper directed a first time shot on goal and the ball went in via a deflection from Jarrad Branthwaite.
City looked to double the lead after a brilliant move saw Foden thread a delicious ball into the path of the unmarked Bernardo who was advancing into the box, but this time the skipper shot wide.
Everton had other ideas as Abdoulaye Doucoure pumped in a hopeful cross and the ball took a deflection off Manuel Akanji and evaded Rico Lewis to find Ndiaye at the far post who instinctively shot first time and the ball flew past Stefan Ortega Moreno into the net.
