After seeing an early header sail just wide, Haaland did not let his second chance go awry, latching onto a wonderfully weighted through ball from the electric Jeremy Doku, before coolly dinking the ball over the goalkeeper to claim his seventh goal in the competition this season.
Shortly before the half-hour mark, we doubled our lead and Doku was the architect again, showing great agility, ball control and vision on the left flank to find Cherki who expertly finished into the corner, making it nine goals and nine assists across all competitions in a sky blue shirt for the Frenchman.
Doku was forced off with an injury shortly after, and his replacement Phil Foden almost made it three before the interval, but his strike from a promising position went over the bar.
Shortly after the hour mark, we forced Galatasaray goalkeeper Ugurcan Çakir into two smart saves, first from Omar Marmoush’s shot and then from Rayan Ait-Nouri’s close-range effort.
We remained in control for the remainder of the encounter and secured an all-important top-eight finish, avoiding a play-off match and taking us straight into the last-16 of the competition.
