The appointment of former England manager, Sam Allardyce, as the new Leeds United manager saw all eyes turn to the Etihad and from the first whistle, Pep Guardiola’s men knew their opposition would not make this match easy for us.
But it was our no. 8 and captain, Ilkay Gundogan who had space on the edge of the 18-yard box and rolled a shot into the bottom left corner, to lift the spirits.
Not long after, the German made it a brace for himself, as he found himself with space again outside the box, but this time, fired an effort into the bottom right corner, which caught Joel Robles off guard.
City would’ve extended our lead further in the second half, but Gundogan was denied his hat-trick from the penalty spot by a finger tip save from Robles, before the ball smacked the post and bounced back into play.
We were left rueing our missed opportunities, as the ball fell kindly to Leeds United’s Rodrigo in the box, and he calmly slotted past Ederson, as we headed into a nervy last period of the match.
Fortunately, City were able to hang on, and pull four points ahead at the summit of the Premier League.
