First-half goals from Jack Grealish and Omar Marmoush inspired City to a commanding 2-0 Premier League victory over Leicester City.

Fresh from reaching the FA Cup semi-final for the seventh time in succession on the weekend, Pep Guardiola’s men returned to the Etihad full of confidence and raced into an early lead, as Grealish struck into the bottom corner after just two minutes, following great work on the wing by Savinho.

Marmoush doubled the lead a minute before the half-hour mark, capitalising on a defensive blunder by Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen to strike into the net from 10 yards via the underneath of the crossbar.

Savinho came close to adding a third before the interval but Hermansen produced a smart save to deny the electric Brazilian.

Just before the hour mark, a slick passing move from one side of the pitch to the other saw Jeremy Doku drill a cross into the box, but the onrushing Marmoush failed to direct the ball on target under heavy pressure inside the six-yard box.

We remained in control of possession for the remainder of the encounter under the floodlights, with the biggest cheer of the second period coming when fan-favourite Oscar Bobb was substituted on for the final five minutes, after missing almost eight months due to injury.

The victory moves us up into fourth place in the league table, one point ahead of Newcastle United who have a game in hand, and two points ahead of Chelsea who play on Thursday evening.
