Omar Marmoush scored a wonderful first-half treble to inspire City to an impressive 4-0 Premier League victory over Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.

Erling Haaland started as City captain for the first time in a competitive fixture, but it was his strike partner Marmoush who opened the scoring in superb fashion after 19 minutes, latching onto Ederson’s precise long pass to coolly lob over Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, claiming his first goal for the Club.

The assist from Ederson saw him enter the Premier League history books, as he became the goalkeeper with the most assists in the competition with six, overtaking Paul Robinson.

Five minutes later, Marmoush doubled his tally, collecting the ball from Ilkay Gundogan, before moving the ball onto his right foot and arrowing a shot into the near post from 12 yards.

Shortly after the half-hour mark, the Egyptian completed a stunning 14-minute hat-trick, arriving onto Savinho’s pass into the box to sweep into the net.

The visitors tried to find a way back into the game after the interval and managed their first effort on target through substitute Lewis Miley, but his strike was beaten away efficiently by the alert Ederson.

With just under 10 minutes left to play, James McAtee netted our fourth goal from close range, after Erling Haaland expertly flicked Ilkay Gundogan’s corner into the Academy graduate’s path.
