PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW
.”They have a lot of threats and a lot of positive things.
“Bruno [Guimarães] is one of them not just this season. For two or three seasons he’s playing at a high level since he arrived from France now he’s more advanced, Tonali makes more in the central role, but both can do it, the physicality, speed and long balls, set pieces.
“It’s an experienced and solid team already, of course congratulations for reaching the Carabao Cup final but playing one game a week, it can be unbelievably dangerous, without the Champions League.
“They qualified for it then had it, then didn’t qualify with a lot of injuries.
“They will be a top 4 and 5 contender until the end.”
PREVIOUS MEETING
Our last league encounter at the Etihad against Eddie Howe’s side came in August 2023, where a Julian Alvarez goal secured the three points and made it 17 consecutive home matches across all competitions, setting a new Club record that had stood since 1921.
We also hosted them in the FA Cup quarter-finals last March, where a brace from Bernardo Silva fired us into the semi-finals for a record-breaking sixth time in succession.
LAST TIME OUT
Our last league fixture in early February ended in a 5-1 defeat away to Arsenal, but since then, we secured a 2-1 FA Cup victory over Leyton Orient.
On Tuesday evening, we fell to a heartbreaking 3-2 UEFA Champions League knockout play-off first leg defeat against Real Madrid.
As for Eddie Howe’s side, their last league encounter ended in a home defeat at the hands of Fulham.
Since that loss, the Magpies have recorded successive domestic cup victories, 2-0 in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Arsenal to reach the final of the competition, and 3-2 in the FA Cup fourth round away to Birmingham City.
