Pep Guadiola’s men made a blistering start at the Etihad and took the lead inside six minutes as Rayan Ait-Nouri’s cross deflected off Salford’s Alfie Dorrington and went into the net.

Omar Marmoush thought he smashed in a second shortly after, but the striker’s effort was chalked off for offside.

The visitors grew into the game and almost levelled before the interval as Ben Woodburn’s half-volley arrowed towards the top corner, but City goalkeeper James Trafford remained alert to expertly tip over the bar.

Shortly after the break, we pushed to double our lead though substitute Ryan McAidoo, but his deflected strike was parried to safety by Salford goalkeeper Matt Young.

The League Two side hit back with a big chance of their own though Kelly N’Mai, but his near post blast was blocked well by the chest of Trafford.

Pep introduced Antoine Semenyo, Guéhi and Nico O’Reilly from the bench and it was January signing Guéhi who grabbed our second and his first goal for the Club with just under 10 minutes remaining, tapping into an empty net from a Rayan Cherki cross, securing our place in Monday’s fifth round draw.
