The encounter came alive on the hour mark, with the visitors being awarded a penalty, before referee Jonathan Moss reviewed the decision and overturned it, to the relief of Kyle Walker who was initially penalised for bringing down Adam Armstrong.

Pep Guardiola introduced Kevin de Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden off the bench but the visitors stood firm.

Raheem Sterling thought he tapped in a dramatic winner in the 90th minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
