First-half goals from centre-back pairing Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol inspired City to an important 3-0 Premier League victory over Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s men broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark, with Dias unleashing a thunderous effort into the top corner from 25 yards.

We doubled the lead four minutes later, with Phil Foden’s curling corner met powerfully by the head of Gvardiol to put us in a commanding position at the interval.

The visitors threatened a goal back after the break, but midfielder Granit Xhaka saw an effort crash off the post.

Five minutes after the hour, a piece of magic from Rayan Cherki saw us go 3-0 up, as the skilful Frenchman produced a Rabona cross for Foden to nod in off the crossbar, marking the Englishman’s fifth goal in his last three Premier League appearances.

Cherki came close to getting the goal that his display deserved, but saw his low strike saved well by Robin Roefs before being replaced to a standing ovation at the Etihad.

The visitors were reduced to 10-men with Luke O’Nien sent off for a high challenge on Matheus Nunes in the final seconds, as we secured all three points to move within two points of league-leaders Arsenal.
