The appointment of Le Bris as Sunderland head coach back in June 2024 came as a surprise for many, but the Frenchman has worked wonders with the Black Cats.
He led them back to the Premier League in his first season in charge and then claimed an impressive seventh place in the top-flight and a spot in the UEFA Europa League, the club’s first European qualification in 53 years.
Defensive solidarity is a key factor for Le Bris, who also puts plenty of emphasis on set-pieces, including the dreaded long-throw.

We last welcomed Sunderland to the Etihad in December 2025, where goals from Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Phil Foden saw us claim a seventh successive Premier League home win.
We then faced them swiftly on New Year’s Day at the Stadium of Light, where we were held to a goalless draw.
