Manchester City blew Aston Villa away in the first half as we ran out 3-1 victors at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s men pushed from the off and got the goal they were after within the first five minutes.

Riyad Mahrez wiped in a corner to the near post, and Rodrigo jumped highest emphatically to head home.

With a buoyant crowd backing City, we almost got our second as Ilkay Gundogan had the ball in the back of the Villa net, but it was chalked off because of an earlier collision between Erling Haaland and goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

After a lot of City pressure, we secured our second.

Calum Chambers miscued his header back to Martinez and Haaland raced on to it first, he worked up a yard of space and played it across goal to Gundogan who to tapped home at the far post.

Moments later, we were awarded a penalty after Jack Grealish was pulled to the ground by Jacob Ramsey.

Mahrez was the one to step up and he shot down the middle, as he sent Martinez the wrong way to cap off an excellent first half.

A lapse of concentration at the back, allowed Ollie Watkins to run through the middle of our defence, and roll the ball past Ederson and pull a goal back.

But it wasn’t enough, as City claimed all three points at the Etihad.
