Sublime goals from Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes propelled Academy-laden City to a 2-1 Carabao Cup victory over Watford and secured our place in the fourth round of the competition.

Pep Guardiola made nine changes from last Sunday’s Premier League draw with Arsenal and handed a first-team debut to 16-year-old Kaden Braithwaite in defence, along with starts for fellow Academy graduates Phil Foden, Rico Lewis, James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly, whilst Jacob Wright appeared from the bench.

We made the perfect start under the floodlights, taking the lead after just five minutes with Doku collecting Jack Grealish‘s pass just inside the 18-yard box and turning expertly, before firing into the bottom corner.

Seven minutes before the interval, we deservedly doubled our lead as Nunes struck low and hard from 20 yards, arrowing the ball inside the near post to claim his first goal for the Club in splendid fashion.

Shortly after the break, Nunes almost doubled his tally, but his powerful effort was saved well by Jonathan Bond, before Savinho‘s curling strike was cleared off the line.

Ten minutes later, the Brazilian embarked on an incredible solo run from inside our own half, beating two Watford defenders before striking across goal, only to see the ball cannon back off the far post.

With five minutes of normal time left to play, Tom Ince curled into the top corner to pull one goal back for the visitors with their first effort on target, but we remained in control and booked our place in the fourth round draw on a proud night for our Academy.
