Pep Guardiola‘s men began in confident fashion against the in-from Hammers and dominated the ball in the opening exchanges.
The visitors were rigid and organised but City got the opener on the half-hour mark through Ruben Dias, who powerfully headed in a superb Kevin De Bruyne cross to mark his first goal for the club since joining last summer and propel the Belgian into the top ten of the all-time Premier League assists chart with 77 in the competition.
The goal added an extra spring in the step of Guardiola‘s men, who immediately went forward hunting a second, but Ferran Torres‘ shot from 20 yards was well held by Darren Randolph.
West Ham regrouped and worked themselves back into the game, hitting the outside of the post shortly before netting the leveller two minutes before the interval through Michail Antonio, who poked in at the back post from Lingard’s shot.
City emerged from the break with an attacking intensity, with De Bruyne leading the team forward with a superb burst, but his cross trickled across the six-yard box with nobody on hand to tap in.
With just over 20 minutes left, City regained the lead through another centre-back as John Stones fired in expertly from ten yards from an accurate Riyad Mahrez cutback to notch his fourth goal of the season in all competitions.
The visitors worked hard again to get another equaliser and missed a glorious chance through Issa Diop, who nodded wide in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
That proved to be the last chance of the game as City claimed all three points - our 20th consecutive victory in all competitions, extending our unbeaten run to 27 matches.
