Kevin De Bruyne collected his 250th goal contribution under Pep Guardiola in his penultimate Etihad Stadium appearance, scoring the only goal to inspire City to a crucial 1-0 Premier League victory over Wolves.

After eight matches unbeaten across all competitions, Guardiola’s men began confidently and came close to an early opener, as a powerful Ruben Dias strike from long-range flew just wide of the post, before Omar Marmoush blazed over from 16 yards midway through the half.

However, shortly before the half-hour mark, the visitors, with six wins on the bounce, came close twice in quick succession through Rayan Ait-Nouri, whose first strike from ten yards cannoned off the inside of the post and back into his path, where he blasted on goal again, only to see Josko Gvardiol perfectly positioned to clear off the line.

Nico O’Reilly was next to go close to the opener, latching onto the energetic Jeremy Doku’s pass and seeing his venomous strike superbly tipped over by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa, however, the shot-stopper could not prevent City in our next attack.

Doku continued his energetic display and dribbled down the left flank, before cutting the ball back for the onrushing De Bruyne to fire us ahead, claiming his 250th goal involvement under the management of Guardiola, becoming only the second player to reach such a feat after Lionel Messi.

Shortly after the hour mark, Wolves threatened a leveller and clattered the post again, this time through Matheus Cunha’s effort from the edge of the box.

We battled hard and remained resolute to claim three vital points to propel us up to third in the Premier League table, with only fourth-placed Newcastle able to overtake us by the end of this round of fixtures.
