A brace from Gabriel Jesus and a further strike from Riyad Mahrez in the final ten minutes were enough for City to beat Wolves 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium, and extend our winning run to an incredible 21 matches.

City’s early pressure eventually told inside 15 minutes, when Leander Dendoncker diverted Mahrez’s vicious ball across the box into his own net under pressure from the onrushing Raheem Sterling.

Aymeric Laporte thought he’d doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time when he poked home Bernardo’s flick-on from another inviting Mahrez cross, but the centre back was judged to be offside following a VAR review.

Pep Guardiola’s men were quick out of the traps once again after the break, with Kevin De Bruyne forcing Rui Patricio into an excellent fingertip save after linking up with Jesus in the 51st minute.

But it was the visitors who were next to have the ball in the net, Conor Coady finding the bottom corner with his head from Joao Moutinho’s free-kick just after the hour.

Undeterred, City dusted themselves down and got themselves back in front with ten to go, Jesus smashing home on the turn after Wolves failed to clear Kyle Walker’s low cross.

Mahrez then put the game beyond doubt with stoppage time approaching, calmly sweeping home after the ball fell invitingly for him inside the box, before Jesus added his second and City’s fourth in stoppage time, pouncing on a fumble from Rui Patricio.
