The attacking midfielder progressed through the Academy age groups to captain the Under-18 side in the 2019/20 season and that form was rewarded when he was invited to train with the first team during the Premier League restart, making the bench on four occasions and remaining with the squad at the start of the 2020/21 campaign.
Palmer made his first team debut in the Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Burnley in September 2020, signed a new long-term contract in the summer of 2021 and scored his first senior goal in our Carabao Cup win over Wycombe in September of that year.
Only a foot injury hampered his progress during the 2021/22 campaign, but he was a regular member of the matchday squad throughout 2022/23, adding the Premier League title, FA Cup and Champions League trophies to his honours list.
This summer, he was part of the England team that enjoyed European Championship Under-21 final success over Spain.
To start this term, he scored in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal in the season curtain-raiser and also the equalising goal in our UEFA Super Cup victory over Sevilla.
“I have had a fantastic time at Manchester City and I would like to thank everyone who’s been there for me and supported me during my time at the Club – players, coaches, staff,” said Palmer.
“It doesn’t feel that long ago that I was Under-18 captain and I leave now having been involved in the Treble-winning squad and the UEFA Super Cup triumph too, incredible achievements I was so grateful to be a part of.
“It’s been an amazing journey for me and I’ve enjoyed every single step.
“The next step is leaving the football club. I leave with many happy memories and wish everyone at City the very best for the future.”
“Cole has come up through our Academy system and been a model professional throughout that time,” added Txiki Begiristain.
“We’ve enjoyed watching his development and I’d also like to pay tribute, as I am sure Cole would, to the coaches who’ve aided his progress through the years.
“Cole was a valuable member of the Treble-winning squad and we won’t forget the impact he made in our victory in the UEFA Super Cup success that followed.
“We wish Cole well for the future.”
Everyone at Manchester City wishes Cole the very best of luck for the future.
