The Belgian was instrumental as City beat Real Madrid 2-1 on Wednesday, assisting Gabriel Jesus’ opener before bagging the winner from the penalty spot with his 50th goal for the Club.
Roberto Martinez, De Bruyne’s manager at international level and a UEFA technical observer, said afterwards: “He was at the centre of every attacking threat for City. His clever positioning on the ball allowed City to create numerical advantages all over the pitch. He also displayed outstanding decisions on the ball and scored from the penalty spot.”
De Bruyne has been nominated alongside Serge Gnabry, who scored twice as Bayern Munich beat Chelsea, Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets and Houssem Aouar of Lyon.
