In a month that saw City return to domestic action after the climax of the World Cup, there were a number of standout performers across just three games.
With players on their way back from Qatar throughout the month, Pep Guardiola utilised his squad as we scored seven goals and remained unbeaten.
So, here are the three candidates up for your vote…
ERLING HAALAND
The Norwegian striker continued his sensational form following the winter hiatus by scoring in our trio of matches.
He started by opening the scoring in our Carabao Cup success over Liverpool, then followed his cool strike with a brace in our 3-0 victory over Leeds at Elland Road.
Haaland then rounded off a tremendous month by sweeping home the first goal of the match in our 1-1 draw with Everton on New Year’s Day.
His record in all competitions this term now reads 27 goals from 21 appearances.
RIYAD MAHREZ
The Algerian dazzled in December by scoring one and assisting another of our seven goals across the month.
His strike in the win over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool was arguably the pick of the bunch. He plucked the ball from the sky, danced into the box and wrapped the ball into the bottom corner.
The 31-year-old turned provider in the stalemate with the other half of Merseyside when he again highlighted his ball control skills to weave into the box and tee up Haaland who made no mistake.
RICO LEWIS
The City Academy graduate continues to grow from strength to strength and his stock rose once again in December – earning him a second consecutive nomination.
First, he produced a performance beyond his teenage years in the 3-2 win over Liverpool by keeping their dangerous attack relatively quiet throughout.
He then showcased his tactical awareness against Leeds and Everton, in what were his first two Premier League starts.
Can he win his first Etihad Player of the Month award?
