Fight promoter Eddie Hearn says Saturday’s tantalising double-header of Premier League and boxing action at the Etihad Campus will be the ‘ultimate’ day of sport.

The chairman of Matchroom Sport visited the City Football Academy on Thursday and watched Pep Guardiola’s side’s training session before a big night of boxing in Manchester this weekend.

Kicking-off the afternoon is the Blues’ meeting with Southampton at the Etihad Stadium at 15:00 (UK) before Jack Catterall fights Regis Prograis at the Co-op Live following a mouth-watering undercard.

What’s more, lifelong City fan, and son of Ricky, Campbell Hatton is also on the bill as he takes on Jimmy Joe Flint for the Central Area super-lightweight title.

It all points to a thrilling evening in Manchester and Hearn believes it’s the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.

“It’s been amazing [to be at the CFA],” he declared.

“I get the privilege of seeing a lot of incredible facilities and this is right up there. I’m quite blown away by, not just in existence at the moment, but the plans [for the future] as well.

“The aim for us is on Saturday, you finish the game against Southampton and you come to the boxing. Which is about 100-yards away, that’s kind of the natural progression of your day’s experience.

“I think that’s quite a unique offering. That’s the plan. It’s the ultimate sports day out.

“On the main event, fans can expect one of the best fights in the world. But then on the undercard, they can expect a lot of drama from a lot of local lads.

“Campbell Hatton is really fighting for his career which, at a young age, is quite remarkable. It’s a must win. His first fight with Jimmy Joe Flint was a war, this will be another one.

“You’ve got the Premier League champions in Manchester City and one of the best fight nights of the year just 100 yards away.

“My message to football fans is get yourself planned. Go to the game, finish there, have a little stroll over to Co-op Live and watch a great night of boxing for the ultimate day in sport.”
