The Yashin Trophy, named after legendary goalkeeper Lev Yashin, is one of seven major awards handed out as part of the illustrious Ballon d’Or ceremony, which was held in Paris this evening.
Aston Villa and Argentina stopper Emiliano Martinez won the prize, with Al Hilal and Morocco’s Yassine Bounou finishing third.
He’s gone one better than 2022 when he finished third, behind Thibault Courtois of Real Madrid and Alisson Becker of Liverpool.
Ederson was a key component in our Treble-winning side of 2022/23 – a reliable and pivotal part of City’s success in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
He’s now won the Premier League in five of six seasons at the Etihad, proving to be the perfect keeper for Pep Guardiola’s system.
The 29-year-old made 35 league appearances this past term and kept 11 clean sheets.
He also became the 17th keeper to keep 100 shutouts in Premier League history, reaching that tally in the 2-0 win over Newcastle in March 2023.
In all competitions, Ederson picked up 18 clean sheets and, vitally in the Champions League, City didn’t concede more than one goal in any European game.
It was somewhat fitting, too, that he had the final touch in the UCL final in Istanbul.
After a brilliant performance, including an astonishing save to keep out Romelu Lukaku from close-range, he turned away a Robin Gosens flicked header and seconds later, the whistle was blown on a campaign never to be forgotten.
Everyone at Manchester City congratulates Ederson on his latest achievement.
