Ederson and Gabriel Jesus started as Brazil continued their perfect start to 2022 World Cup qualifying with a 1-0 win over Venezuela.

The goalkeeper was making his first appearance for the Selecao for more than 12 months, winning his 10th cap in a tight encounter which was settled by Roberto Firmino.

The Liverpool forward tapped home from close-range when Darwin Marchis could only head the ball into his path whilst under pressure from Jesus and full-back Renan Lodi.

Deployed on the right of a front three, the Manchester City striker proved a lively presence before being withdrawn in the 77th minute of a contest in which Brazil struggled to convert their dominance into goals.

Richarlison and David Luiz both had strikes disallowed, the first for offside and the second for a foul on the goalkeeper, before Jesus helped Firmino break the deadlock.

At the other of the pitch, Ederson was often reduced to the role of a spectator and was called into action on just one occasion as Brazil recorded a third consecutive World Cup qualifying victory.
