The goalkeeper put pen to paper on a deal which keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2026, prolonging his commitment to the Club to nine-years from his arrival in June 2017.
He is the fifth senior player to agree new terms in 2021, following in the footsteps of Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho, John Stones and Ruben Dias.
The Brazilian, whose previous contract was due to expire in the summer of 2025, has established himself as a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s side since he was signed from Benfica, keeping 94 clean sheets in 195 appearances and winning every domestic honour available, as well as two Premier League Golden Gloves.
Having penned the new deal, City’s No.31 is looking forward to the future at a club he believes is perfectly placed to help him achieve his ambitions.
“This was an easy decision for me,” he told mancity.com. “There is nowhere else I’d want to be.
“To be part of one of the best squads in world football and to compete for trophies year in year out is what every footballer wants, and that is the opportunity you’re given at City.

“His performances over the last four years have been nothing short of exceptional and there is no doubt he will continue to be a key player for us.
“We are thrilled he has committed his future to the Club.”

Ederson: Golden Gloves
Ederson arrived at the Etihad in the summer of 2017 following an impressive season at Benfica, where he kept 24 clean sheets in 27 games as the Lisbon giants completed a domestic treble.
Then aged 23, he was highly regarded as a player of great promise and it was thought his outstanding distribution would make him ideally suited to the all-conquering City side Guardiola was building.
“He is one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe and he is an important addition to the squad for next season and the coming seasons,” Begiristain said at the time and it quickly became evident as the Brazilian made an instant impact.
He kept 21 clean sheets and was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award in a brilliant debut season in which he was widely praised for revolutionising City’s style of play due to his ability in possession.
A new seven-year contract followed and Ederson proved equally indispensable in 2018-19, when he was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the first time.
He recorded 28 shutouts as Guardiola’s men won every available domestic honour, which included clean sheets in the FA Cup final victory over Watford and our Carabao Cup triumph against Chelsea, when he made a crucial save from Jorginho in the penalty shootout.
In the Premier League, he showed his class with a sublime display in our pivotal victory over Tottenham Hotspur, whilst he also further evidenced his technical ability with two assists, including a remarkable long-range pass for Sergio Aguero in our 6-1 win over Huddersfield Town.
Ederson firmly catapulted himself into the world class bracket with the impressive consistency of his performances during his first two seasons in Manchester and his reputation has only been enhanced in the years since.
Though the 2019-20 campaign ultimately proved disappointing for the Club, our No.31 achieved a personal milestone as he scooped the Premier League Golden Glove for the first time after keeping 16 clean sheets.
He did the same again last season, registering 19 shutouts to retain the annual prize and was a typically unflappable and influential figure in a rock-solid defence that was the cornerstone of City’s success.
The 28-year-old conceded just five goals in 12 appearances as Guardiola’s side reached the Champions League final for the first time in the Club’s history, whilst at home, he went eight games without conceding en route to a third Premier League triumph.
It was enough to see him named in the PFA Team of the Year for a second time and the Champions League squad of the season.
He has started the 2021-22 campaign with two shutouts and, to date, he has made 195 appearances for City and kept 94 clean sheets.
