Ederson says that City will leave no stone unturned in a bid to achieve Champions League glory as we prepare to embark on this season’s European campaign.

Under Pep Guardiola, City have emerged as one of the most consistent sides in the Champions League, regularly running deep into the latter stages of what is European football’s blue ribbon tournament.

Ederson and his team-mates reached our maiden Champions League final in 2021 before being edged out 1-0 by Chelsea and then progressed through to the final four last term before suffering a heart-breaking extra time semi-final loss to Real Madrid.

This time round City have been drawn alongside Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund and FC Copenhagen in the group stages.

And ahead of Tuesday’s opening Group G clash away to Sevilla, our Brazilian keeper revealed that the desire to try and secure the one piece of major silverware missing from our collection ran deep amongst the City squad.

“We all work to achieve that goal of winning it. We know the grandeur of the competition and the level of the teams involved,” Ederson declared.

“If they are involved in the competition, it’s because they are the best teams in Europe. The reality is that only one team can win.

“It’s a trophy that we all want to win.

“We have always tried and we haven’t managed to win it yet. But every year we are closer and closer to winning it.

“We need to keep working hard and focus on every game to be able to fight for the trophy.

“We have the quality and the capacity to win the only trophy left to add to our cabinet.”

City will go into this season’s European showpiece with a number of exciting new additions to the squad including former Dortmund striker Erling Haaland who has made a superb start to life at the Etihad.

In tandem with fellow new forward Julian Alvarez, the pair have instantly adapted to the demands of playing in England.

And Ederson is full of admiration for the way Haaland - and Alvarez – have hit the ground running.

“Erling is an amazing striker. He has shown his talent everywhere he has been and his capacity to score goals. He is doing the same here,” the keeper pointed out.

“Scoring is his main target. He is always looking to score goals. He is always looking for the best position to score.

“Having that mentality is very important to us. He is a great scorer. He is good at finishing, he is strong, he is fast, and he protects the ball well.

“He is still a young player, but he has enormous talent. He performed very well in the first few games, especially in the last game where he helped us a lot to get the win.

“He came to contribute to this team and help us keep winning. He is settling well into the group and our style of play.

“Not only him, Julian Alvarez as well. Both players are going to be very important to us and they are going to help us a lot this season.”
