The City stopper started between the sticks for his home nation as the five-time champions left it late in Lima.
Indeed, the decisive goal in the Peruvian capital didn’t arrive until the 90th minute when Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos flicked a near-post header home from a corner.
However, Ederson and co. were in control for most of the contest, with the hosts failing to register a single shot on target despite a bright opening to proceedings.
The scoreline could even have been more emphatic in Lima, with Tottenham striker Richarlison twice having the ball in the net, only to see the offside flag raised.
The first came when Raphinha squared the ball for a simple tap-in inside before the 20-minute mark, but both players had failed to time their runs correctly.
And number two would follow soon after, with Richarlison’s powerful header once again ruled out following a VAR review.
But, with Ederson rarely troubled in the Brazil net, the decisive goal was only a matter of time, and it was Marquinhos who stepped up to take home the points.
While less emphatic than their opening win over Bolivia, it means the City stopper’s nation, alongside Argentina, are the only nation to maintain a 100% record in World Cup qualifying so far.
The top six teams will automatically progress to the 2026 World Cup, hosted in the United States, Mexico and Canada, with seventh entering a play-off.
Ederson and co. are next in qualifying action in October, when they face Venezuela and Uruguay.
