City’s quintet of England stars all featured as the Three Lions breezed into the World Cup quarter-finals with a 3-0 victory over Senegal.

After Jordan Henderson’s opener, Phil Foden claimed the assists for goals from Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka either side of half-time.

Foden, Kyle Walker and John Stones all started as Gareth Southgate’s side teed up a last-eight clash with current holders France on Saturday (19:00 UK).

Walker, who was back in the side for the final group game against Wales, played his first 90 minutes in more than two months after recovering from injury while Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips were second half substitutes.

England made a slow start to the game, although Stones was closest to opening the scoring from Foden’s outswinging cross with an effort that flicked over the bar.

Senegal’s high press made it difficult for England’s defence and they were almost caught out twice by quick turnovers.

After giving the ball away, Ismaila Sarr fired over from close range and moments later, Jordan Pickford made a strong save from Boulaye Dia.

England finally put a sweeping move together in the 38th minute, that started with a neat flick from Foden and ended with Henderson turning in Jude Bellingham’s square pass.

And the second came on the stroke of half-time with another strong break from Bellingham before Foden laid a pass into Kane to score his first goal of the World Cup.

The City winger then teed up a third 10 minutes into the second half when he rode a tackle before delivering a perfect low cross for Saka to finish.

With the victory all-but secured, Foden was replaced by Etihad team-mate Grealish in the 65th-minute and Phillips came on shortly after, to ensure there was no chance of a comeback.

City’s England stars join Argentina’s Julian Alvarez and Nathan Ake, from the Netherlands, in the quarter-finals.
