Fernández joined City on Tuesday from Chelsea on a five-year-contract.
He followed in the footsteps of Elliot Anderson, Gerónimo Rulli and Ayyoub Bouaddi in linking up with Enzo Maresca’s first team squad and was joined by Iliman Ndiaye on deadline day.
The 25-year-old has made the move to the Etihad armed with a formidable reputation for being one of the most complete and talented midfielders operating in the world game.
A World Cup and Copa America winner in 2022 and 2024 respectively with Argentina, Fernández also boasts a wealth of elite level club experience both in his native Argentina with River Plate and Defensa y Justicia and more latterly in Europe with Benfica and Chelsea.
Now he’s set to play his part in helping Enzo Maresca’s new-look City squad push for success.
In adopting the No.17 shirt at City, Fernández follows in the illustrious footsteps of legend Kevin De Bruyne who donned that number during his marvellous decade here.
Prior to that it had been worn by the likes of Sun Jihai and Martin Petrov too.
