City’s seventh successive top-flight victory at the start of Enzo Maresca’s first season with City has seen our manager set a new Premier League record.

The Italian has led us to a perfect opening to the campaign, culminating in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium.

It makes him the first manager ever to win their first seven games in charge of a club, surpassing Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who won their first six with City, Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.

Only Chelsea in 2005/06 with nine straight wins and Liverpool in 2019/20 with eight have had longer successful runs to kickstart campaigns than this one.

It’s part of a spectacular start across the board for our new manager since August’s Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.

The Blues have seen off the challenge of Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Coventry City, Manchester United, Sunderland and Liverpool before this win over Ipswich.

We’ve also claimed victories in the Champions League and Carabao Cup over Porto and Norwich City respectively.

During his first seven Premier League games in charge, Maresca’s City have scored 19 goals and conceded just six.

Our haul of 21 points has left us six points clear at the top of the early season table.

Guardiola’s six league wins at the start of his reign is the previous best winning run to begin a spell in charge of City.

Joe Mercer went unbeaten in his first seven league games back in 1965, but that run comprised of three wins and four draws.

Les McDowall, who Guardiola surpassed as our longest serving manager by games played with his final fixture in charge, didn’t lose until his 11th league match as boss in 1950.

However, there were three draws on that run, with his side winning the other seven.

Congratulations to Enzo and his backroom staff on a fine start to the 2026/27 season.
