Erling Haaland admits it will be a ‘special’ moment to compete in the Champions League final as he looks to help City finish the season ‘in the best way possible’

The star striker, who joined us this summer, has won the Premier League and FA Cup and now wants to add a third trophy to this season’s collection and complete a terrific Treble on Saturday when City face Inter in the Champions League final.

“It will be special,” he said. “I have always dreamed of playing in the Champions League final and it will be an honour to play in this match.

“But there’s also a job to do. We have had an incredible season, but we have to finish it in the best way possible.

“I know we are all going to give it everything to win this final.

“We will have to be at our best against a very good Inter Milan side and we’re excited to get out onto the pitch.”

As well as the collective honours, Haaland has had a quite brilliant campaign to date personally.

He’s bagged 52 goals in all competitions, including 12 in the Champions League, putting him top of the scoring charts in the illustrious European cup competition this season.

But he stresses that he loves finding the net because it helps the team in their quest for success.

“I was excited for the challenge,” he continued. “I knew I was joining a team where I would have many chances to score goals and make an impact.

“Luckily, that has been what I have been able to do. I have really loved my first season here in Manchester.

“My targets are to try to help the team lift trophies at the end of the season by scoring goals. I know that if I can score goals and support the team then it will help everyone achieve their goals at the end of the season.

“As soon as I score a goal, all I can think about is getting the next one. That is how I approach this situation and will continue to.”

Haaland has been thrilled with how it’s gone on the pitch, as City chase our third major trophy  in Turkey’s Ataturk Stadium.

But he’s loved every minute off the field, too, in his debut campaign and he thinks the impetus of ‘a really special group of lads’, alongside a manager who he has ‘learnt so much from’ is contributing to this sensational season to date.

He added: “It’s absolutely incredible. All of us share that same hunger and desire to succeed every single day.

“We are there for each other and that’s the way it has to be if we want to be successful.

“It’s a really special group of lads, but also the manager, coaches and all of the staff behind the scenes.

“I am really enjoying it. I knew that this manager, team, staff, facilities and everything here at the club would be the highest level and that’s exactly how it is.

“Pep, his coaches and all of the staff behind the scenes do everything to try and help us bring the best version of ourselves onto the pitch every day.

“I have already learnt so much from Pep and I am sure there is more to come.

“I knew I had to adapt to a new coach, new staff, new teammates and environment but I feel like I have adapted well and I have loved every single minute.”
